We want you, and your family if you are under 18 years old, to be fully informed.
The letters below outline how consent works for the survey and for the interview, what data we collect, and how we protect your information.
The Information Letters for Participants outline what is expected of potential participants younger than 18 years old in terms of parental or guardian consent. 🛡️Is my data safe? (survey and interview)
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Belgian law of 30 July 2018 (protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data), we respect your privacy. All your data will be kept confidential throughout the research process as well as in any publications or presentations related to it.
Your data will be pseudonymized, meaning any information that could directly identify you will be removed from our database. We also never record your name, you’ll instead be assigned a unique, 5-digit identification code for the survey and a pseudonym for the interview. We will also redact any specific details you might mention accidentally (like names of people in your life or familiar places) to prevent indirect identification. The interview is audio recorded for transcription only. Your name is never recorded, only your pseudonym. The audio recording of your interview will be stored securely and safely deleted once they are no longer needed for transcription. Transcription records are stored securely and encrypted. If you have shared contact information with us, that data will be encrypted, stored securely, and stored separately from the survey responses on Ghent University servers. Your identity will never be shared or published. Only myself and my supervisor (Prof. Dr. Elly McCausland) will have access to the raw data.
